I have been with Flying Start since April 2008 and have worked in all areas of the nursery before taking on the Manager's role at the beginning of 2015. I have a Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education and working towards Level 3 in Team Leading and Management. I have recently returned to Flying Start from maternity leave and now work part time sharing my role with my Deputy Manager. I have always been very family orientated and very much believe this is reflected in how I manage Flying Start Nursery. I am very proud of the what we provide at the nursery and look forward to coming to work, seeing the children and working with the team!
Squirrel Room Leader (toddlers) and Deputy Manager
I have been at Flying Start since January 2008 and I am Toddler Room Leader, though I enjoy working in other rooms when I can – it is lovely to watch the toddlers we have looked after move into pre-school and continue to develop their individual personalities. I have a Level 3 NVQ in Children's Care, Learning and Development.
Owl Room Co-Leader (pre-school)
I am one of the two pre-school Room Leaders at Flying Start and have been here since August 2013. I am a qualified teacher and I use my qualifications and experience to encourage and develop the children in the pre-school room to get ready and (as importantly) look forward to going to school. There is a fine line between being three years old and needing cuddles and care and being encouraged to find your independence to help you on the next step of the journey. I really enjoy watching the children as they move through pre-school with us. I work part time due to having a family of my own.
Hedgehog Room Leader (babies)
Having worked through my apprenticeship at Flying Start since 2015, I have Level 3 certificate in Early Years Education and Childcare. I am currently running the Hedgehog Room but have a good knowledge of all ages. I really enjoy the many opportunities we have to get out and about in the local community and the children really love it too!
Hi, I started my childcare career as an apprentice working at Flying Start. I have been here since March 2015 and have a Level 3 in Early Years Education and Care. I spend most of my time in the Squirrel room but move around to gain all the experience I can. I have built up a brilliant relationship with the children in my care and I look forward to spending time with them every day – we mostly enjoy cuddling and messy play, encouraging them to develop sensory skills among many others.
Owl Room Co-leader
I joined Flying Start in August 2017 after finishing my A-levels. I have always had a passion for working with children and while at school I did work experience with Flying Start. Like Gemma I am was an apprentice and have now gained my Level 3. I am currently in Owls but love working in all of the rooms to widen my knowledge. I really enjoy being out an about and like to share that passion while at nursery.
Nursery Chef and Chief Cooking Instructor
I joined Flying Start in March 2019 and have really enjoyed getting to know the children during lunch times and cookery sessions. I have been working in kitchens for over 20 years with a couple of breaks to raise my own children. I have experience working in school kitchens as well as various others kitchens. During my cooking career I have maintained and gained high food hygiene ratings - we're a five star kitchen here!
Pamela Iddon aka "Granny"
All Rooms Cover
A reserved sort so we had to write this for her! Pam is a mum and a granny with years of experience with children. Pam covers staff lunches in the owll room and shares her passion of books and puzzles with the children during “quiet time”. She is very popular with children that leave us to go to school each year as she ventures into the school playground to pick up her own grandchildren!
Supply Nursery Nurse
I joined Flying Start in August 2016 as supply. I really enjoy working in all of the rooms and getting to know all of the children. I studied Maths, Further maths and Chemistry for my A-levels and like to use my skills to teach the children about the wider world. I also volunteer at local childrens' groups where I am given the opportunity to expand my knowledge.
Supply Nursery Nurse
I joined Flying Start in the summer of 2017 as supply for school holidays. I am qualified level 3 and in school time I work in another local setting. I really enjoy keeping busy and getting the most out of the day! I am happy and bubbly and I believe this has a positive effect on the children in my care.
Although you may not see much of me, I am the magic fairy that comes in when everybody goes home and puts the nursery the right way up again! I have very high standards and very little now surprises me when I walk into each room. As I see it, it all adds up to a lot of fun being had during the day! (even the glitter – although we do need to service the hoover regularly!). I am also Flying Start's resident "Handy man" Fixing, creating and maintaining are 3 of my main roles. There is nothing more enjoyable than creating a piece of work and environment I know will aid the development of your children.
Laith is our temp cook while we recruit for the best candidate to fill the role on a permanent basis.
Hello. I joined Flying Start Nursery in the March of 2021 after finishing my A-Levels to work towards my Level 3. Having lots of of experience with my three younger sibling, I have developed a passion for working with children. Because of this passion, I became inspired to become a playground buddy when I was in year 6 working mostly with reception student and I also did my year 10 work experience working with year 1 and 3 students at Fairford Primary School so have already had experience with a range of different age ranges. Since joining Flying Start I have been based mostly with the babies and toddlers and have been enjoying playing a part in their early years journey and I'm looking forward to helping them move swiftly up to pre-school and school happily and confidently.
